Financial assistance
UW Medicine offers financial assistance, under its Financial Assistance policy, to eligible patients unable to pay for emergency or other medically necessary care. Patients who choose UW Medicine benefit from our experience, expertise and the most advanced medical care available, all within one health system. “UW Medicine” includes Airlift Northwest, Harborview Medical Center, UW Medical Center, UW Physicians, UW Medicine Primary Care, and Valley Medical Center.
Are you eligible?
UW Medicine provides financial assistance for any patient/guarantor whose gross family income is up to 400% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) and adjusted for family size after any third-party coverage has been exhausted.
- 0% - 300% of the FPL for a 100% financial assistance discount for facility and/or professional services at Airlift Northwest, Harborview Medical Center, UW Medical Center, UW Physicians, UW Medicine Primary Care, and Valley Medical Center.
- 301% - 350% of the FPL for a 75% financial assistance discount for facility services only with discharge dates on or after July 1, 2022 at Harborview Medical Center, UW Medical Center, and Valley Medical Center.
- 351% - 400% of the FPL for a 50% financial assistance discount for facility services only with discharge dates on or after July 1, 2022 at Harborview Medical Center, UW Medical Center, and Valley Medical Center.

How to apply
To determine your eligibility for financial assistance, you will need to complete an application and provide certain supporting information to verify your household income. A patient, family member or anyone involved in the patient’s care, including your UW Medicine healthcare provider, may apply for financial assistance.
Apply online
- For Harborview Medical Center, UW Medical Center - Montlake, UW Medical Center - Northwest, UW Physicians and UW Medicine Primary Care: To apply online through MyChart, you will need to complete a supplemental application and provide supporting information to verify your household income. MyChart offers the ability to track your application status.
- For Valley Medical Center: To apply online, you will need to submit an application through Valley Medical Center MyChart.
Apply by mail, fax or in person
- For Harborview Medical Center, UW Medical Center - Montlake, UW Medical Center - Northwest, UW Physicians, UW Medicine Primary Care, Valley Medical Center and Airlift Northwest: To apply by mail, fax or in person, you will need to complete a full application and provide supporting information to verify your household income. UW Medicine offers interest free payment plans to pay your balance.
There are two options to setup a payment plan:

Discount options
UW Medicine offers discounts for services received after July 1, 2020 at Harborview Medical Center, UW Medical Center – Montlake, UW Medical Center – Northwest, UW Physicians and UW Medicine Primary Care for patients who are uninsured or are receiving services their insurance doesn’t cover.

How to get a discount
Follow these steps to make sure you get the best possible savings with our prepay and uninsured discounts. This will allow you to receive both discounts. Be sure to begin the process before you come in for your appointment or procedure.
- Schedule your appointment or procedure
- Contact your provider for the information you will need to request an estimate.
- At least seven days (preferred) before your service, call the Financial Access Clearance Team (FACT) at 206.598.4388 to get an estimate by email or mail. For UW Medicine Primary Care estimates, please ask at the clinic’s front desk or call the appointment line at 206.520.5000. Estimates for patient care may be higher or lower than the actual cost, depending on the patient’s specific needs.
- If the actual patient balance is less than the original estimate, the patient or guarantor will receive a refund for any overage that was paid after the discount was applied.
- If the actual patient balance is more than the original estimate, the patient or guarantor will be billed for the difference. The prepay discount will be applied to the additional charges.
- You have two convenient payment options to pay prior to your service. Your discount will be applied when making your full payment based on the estimate.
- Pay in person at the location where you are getting treatment. Bring a copy of your estimate.
- Pay by phone based on the location where you are getting treatment. The Cashier office can look up your estimate within our system.
