MCAT Exam for Summer 2024
Applicants must submit scores from the 2021, 2022, or 2023 Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) to be considered for admission to the entering class of 2024. It has been our longstanding policy to accept MCAT scores for 3 years. During COVID, we extended that time frame. For E24 and beyond, we have returned to our original policy. This exam must be taken no later than September 30 of the year prior to possible matriculation. Applicants can submit their application prior to their test date, but the application will not be reviewed until an MCAT score is received. Many applicants take the exam during Spring of the year they apply to allow themselves time to retake the exam if they are unsatisfied with their initial scores. It is advisable for applicants to take the MCAT after they have completed all their science prerequisites. Please note that any previous MCAT scores are visible in your application and will be considered as part of the holistic review.
Why consider the MCAT?
Applicants must demonstrate they have the academic ability to complete medical school and pass the USMLE (United States Medical License Examination). The USMLE assesses a physician's ability to apply knowledge, concepts, and principles, and to demonstrate fundamental patient-centered skills that are important in health and disease and that constitute the basis of safe and effective patient care.
GPA/MCAT statistics
The table below illustrates the combination of overall undergraduate AMCAS GPA and MCAT scores of UW School of Medicine applicants (from the WWAMI states, including MSTP WWAMI) that were accepted (green) and not accepted (red) in the last academic year. Most applicants who were accepted with lower-than-average college GPAs had taken additional post graduate course work and performed well.
